Cynthia Cruz merges pigment, pixel, apps and canvas to create large paintings. She uses found online images, manipulates using apps and computer software, prints onto canvases and paints into it. She was awarded the ACME Studio Award in 2015 after finishing her MFA at Goldsmiths. The award gave her a budget and access to a sizeable studio which allowed her to experiment in scale, expand her practice and work with new materials under the guidance of the ACME team.
“The mentoring program was very useful; I still keep in touch with the people that came in to mentor me. I also appreciated that Acme let me chose my mentors, they also gave suggestions and allowed us to sit in on the other artists’ mentors.”
The programme supplied structure to her way of working, access to mentors to assist in her processes and in curation of the show she worked towards at the end of the residency and through this show, her work was supplied with a new audience.
